Monthy Vaccination Workshop

On the second Tuesday of very month from 7-9 pm, Dr. Ed Hofmann-Smith, PhD, ND will lead a seminar for parents on vaccination. Every meeting will include both a discussion of the benefits to society of high levels of immunity in the community, as well as an assessment of the pros and cons of each of the routine vaccinations. We will assess the risks of the diseases and the effectiveness and potential risks of the vaccines. We will also go over some strategies for minimizing risks of vaccination. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and/or share their experiences. Other areas, such as possible connections to autism, autoimmunity, diabetes, etc. may be discussed in response to questions or requests from the participants. We invite other practitioners and parents with significant experiences with vaccine reactions etc. to share their experience too. Our goal is to give a balanced account based as much as possible on scientific evidence so that parents will be more knowledgeable about the issues and thus more confident in their vaccination choices.

Learning Objectives: 1] Be able to discuss the many sources of bias as a function of the source of the vaccination opinions/information. 2] Be able to discuss the typical reasons for bias in the sources of vaccination information. 3] Be able to describe the public health point of view that high levels of specific immunity prevent epidemics. 4] Be able to describe the routine (mandated) vaccinations, and the major known pros and cons of each vaccine. 5] Be able to describe some ways to minimize risks associated with vaccinations 6] Be able to discuss the possible connection of the MMR and mercury-containing vaccines to autism and be able to discuss in general terms how vaccination could interfere with gut immunity.

You can sign up for the next seminar at the Natural Childbirth and Family Clinic or you can call 503-252-8125 during clinic hours to sign up by phone.
