Naturopathic Family Practice
In our practice we to see people of all ages. And over many years of practice we have gathered quite an array of effective natural therapies which support the body’s ability to heal itself.
Many times a simple poultice or herbal medicine is all that is needed. But in general, we try to take the whole picture into consideration. Illnesses are not separate from the individual and a person is not the sum of his parts. In the spirit of holistic medicine, we see the patient in the context of his life: his relationships, his job, his activities, his diet, his habits, his physical strengths and weaknesses. Usually when something starts to go wrong, the problem really started somewhere in the body’s self-righting feedback mechanism.
In naturopathic family practice it is our job to figure out what is keeping the body from doing what it knows how to do best: keeping the body healthy and getting the body well. We need to identify “the impediment to cure”. Is it inadequate diet or exercise, too much stress, early trauma, a genetic hurtle, habits which unintentionally injure the body, environmental toxins, emotional habits? And then, what can we do to help?
There isn’t always one answer for how to treat any particular illness. It really depends…on the person and his life circumstances. Holistic medicine is a wonderful way to practice. It is so rewarding to really get down to the cause of things and help folks get better and stay well after that.
In practical terms, this may mean taking vitamins, probiotics or avoiding certain foods, strengthening exercises, herbal medicines, homeopathic medicines, Bowen therapy, counseling, hydrotherapy. We also sometimes do IV therapy, minor surgery and occasionally use antibiotics. Regardless of the therapy, “Do No Harm” is the rule we follow. Since 1979 we have been figuring out how to help folks with safe effective natural remedies.
